In panel 1 the ace knife-thrower Monty seems to holding three knives. He throws, kills Kitty with two (twack and twongggg), and claims to have landed the SCISSORS in the block with his first throw. Huh?

It’s not that much of a surprise. The throwser throws knives which come close to, but don’t actually hit, the person acting as target.
It’s hard and takes a lot of practice, but it is a skill you can learn. (I strongly recommend learning with inanimate targets!)
