I knew an author who had the same name as a well-known author, except for the middle initial. Against her wishes, the publisher featured her name prominently on the cover of her book, without the initial.
I used to be a huge fan. Bought his books in hardcover the day they came out. And his old stuff like The Shining was GOOD ! He would, however, be a good writer without all the gratuitous blood and gore .I have tried to read his newer stuff but it just doesn’t grab me anymore. Either his writing isn’t as good as it once was or I’m just getting too old for it.

A first novel with the name in large type might work for “STEVEN KING”.

If you self-publish, you can put what you want on the cover. Go for it.

You’re making a mistake, Monty. Use that cover for your first book.
Then people will assume that you’re famous but they missed the important news, so they’ll buy it to avoid looking “out of touch”.
When enough folks do that, suddenly you will become famous. Then you can demand a big advance toward your next book

Actually, with a name like that, I think the title is rather intriguing!

There is such a thing as being overly optimistic, Montague Montahue!
Keep your name in a smaller font, and below the title….
