If Calvin tried to use dog years as an excuse for his age under the claims that he doesn’t need to go to school, his parents still won’t believe him in that regard.
Grim just doesn’t seem like the kind of dog you’d use baby talk on. And actually, while I do modulate my voice, I don’t use that kind of talk with my kitty at all. “Is him awake?” What kind of grammar IS that?!

Even when talking to a baby, talking baby talk isn’t so much for the baby’s benefit, it’s for the “adults” using it.

Tried to figure out my age in dog years and it left me wanting to go back to bed.

Yeah, Mom! But I do the same to my dog, and she’s 35 human years!
