Jeff’s no rummy, but he sure does enjoy his gin.

Could be the 30s – that was about the only time when strange men could knock on a door and mooch a meal – or – in this case – a couple of olives!

That doesn’t look like one from the 30’s. It’s neither Fisher’s style, nor an imitation of it; it looks like an Al Smith. And yeah, the repro is really bad. Jeff’s whiskers are such fine lines they drop out. We need remastered Mutt and Jeff!

2 olives a day fails to stop Vermouth’s sway!

What use is the vermouth without some gin?

This must have been when Jeff was young and his whiskers were just beginning to grow. Looks like peach fuzz.

That must have been too much to ask. A lot of things are too much to ask these days.

Reminded of the story of a man at a bar who ordered martini after martini and put all the olives in a jar. His wife had sent him out for a jar of olives.

“Love laughs at a king, Kings don’t mean a thing on the street of dreams. Dreams broken in two, can be made like new on the street of dreams”. This song was popular when I was in the Navy in WW2, recorded by Tommy Dorsey.
