I assume the original date of this comic was during World War II. My parents told me about the nationwide rationing measures. Not just gasoline, but even certain types of food, etc. We had a furniture set in the basement that was manufactured during that time. It had minimal padding, because that was rationed as well. I wonder if modern Americans have the wherewithal to comply with that sort of thing, if it were to happen again.
