Nature Abhores a Vacuum.

Janitorial folks always used to drop in on my office when I was there late (which was quite often), usually without vacuums (no carpets)!

Is Ajax allotted this particular job because he is “stronger than dirt”?

I suspect the brand name Ajax (as in the old advertising jingle “Use Ajax, the foaming cleanser”) is the reason he is the janitor, but I don’t get the significance of the Phillips-head screws on the helmet. Anyone?

(Justin did another “Nature abhors a vacuum” joke on June 10, ‘05 that was less oblique, with Mother Nature running away from a pursuing vacuum cleaner.)

Well DUH, you can’t use wood screws on a steel helmet.

So, OS doesn’t know either. (I’ll refrain from any joke about playing with one’s organ.) Anyone else like to try?

The helmets just there cause it looks funny. No special significance at all.

Ajax isn’t the brightest screw in the barrel; maybe he uses the screws on his helmet to keep it from falling off?

Not everything Justin does here has a specific reason or purpose. Much of it is for the visual humor effect and it works!

The crosstip screws show up better than a straight screw would have.

For the screws on the helmet, how about, “I’d forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on…” ?

Still, that was a good observation.

it’s been a while till i picked up this strip. discovered it early 2021 and the drawings are fantastic and the lines are funny, and even extremely hilarious at times. i make a note this late in the game (6/27/21) on this strip almost 12 years old ’cause this is a funny play on Nature abhorring a vacuum.
