Is the swingset supposed to mean something? Astronomical units or whatnot?

Actually, the trend is to spell it with just the apostrophe now, for the simple reason that “Mars’s”, although technically correct, looks odd to the eye. However, you are right about “it’s” vs. “its.”The problem is that the “-’s,” as it is used here, is normally used to show possession in nouns (as the vestigial remnant of the original Old English Genitive case), so it’s being incorrectly added to pronouns to do the same thing by way of analogy.

I like the rainbow bridge, one could interpret the swing set, slide and monkey bars to be the playground at Asgard Elementary, or not, depending on his/her belief system/creation myth.

In that, he reminds of a captain who lectured to my Air Science class in college. He is soporific, like too many lecturers I have heard….

Really. This is a brilliantly funny cartoon poking fun at the science vs. creationist debate in a school full of gods and all anybody can seem to comment about is an apostrophe.

I was so offended by the apostrophe that I touched it up with the Wite-Out that I always carry around.
