I guess perhaps they were breadboarding the circuits with discrete components as a teaching tool as opposed to using off the shelf IC components. Looks like a breadboard on the table. So in that case, the capacitor or resistor would be about the right size.
Is this series of panels today meant to be humorous ? To me it instead reads rather realistically and a bit philosophically . The last panel where Nancy admits the beauty of the real world has real, inherent value over the “electronic ethos” of that gaming world seems a pretty astute observation to me.
But then again, I am truthfully so far removed from the gaming world (remember yesterday, I mentioned the bulk of my experience has been with Pong and a little bit of actual arcade play of Tron and Tempest back in the early days) it is likely I am not quite getting something here. So, again, explanation is appreciated and hoped for.
