Serendipitous find while just now cleaning up my bookmarks (oldish OJ interview at Vulture — “back then” being when she was a ‘wee person’).

And what kind of stuff did you find interesting to put in comics back then?
Dogs. I was like, Yeah, I gotta draw some more dogs. This one will be a dog wearing a hat. That was it. That was my content. My method was dogs. My jokes were dogs doing things dogs don’t normally do.
One time in the 70s I had a dream about our old family dog who had gone to Doggy Heaven in 1970. I was so happy to see her again! I was crying dream tears of emotion. And just like it was on cue, she did the thing where she dragged her butt around the carpet. Oh, Annie! It is you!
People ARE getting the joke about ironically misplaced sentimentality here, right? “Dogs aren’t a magical fix-it!” followed by Thank you for the lesson, you beautiful magical fix-it! Or am I mansplaining?
