I’ve more or less given up on the genre, it’s become so formulaic. Most suspense novels don’t get solved so much as the villain can’t take it any more and reveals all.
Olivia Jaimes established a while back that Poochie the dog is in almost every “Nancy” comic. But he’s so short that he’s below the bottom frame. Just imagine him wandering around where you can’t see him.
That said, Poochie didn’t actually appear in Act 1, so having him be the culprit is a violation of Ronald Knox’s 10 Commandments of Detective Fiction.
