The 4th Amendment was Not lost, we gave it away out of sheer laziness and stupidity.

They got the Fourth, and now they’re trying for the second.

While not very applicable to the strip the 10th is pretty dead at this point thanks to our more than adequate federal government.

Looks like that kiosk is using the new Google Maps.

The 2nd amendment authorizes formation of the National Guard. Period!

At the very beginnings of this country, this was indeed true, as most citizens used their guns for obtaining food for their families. And so it was possible to even have “Minute Men” types of semi organized militias. But now outside of the official state National Guards, does any reasonable person actually believe that most gun owning private citizens should be considered that organized?

Besides which, just how would such militias tackle the organized military of the federal government if they thought the government was indeed becoming dictatorial? Yeah, you weekend gun toting accountants and IT professionals, we are now going to be going after trained Navy Seals. Good luck fellows, you are going to need it!!!!

Most people don’t realize it, but when you comment or hit “Send” or “Reply” you add tags to your message that tells what machine it came from, what routers it went through and the originating Inet provider. It goes out over radio waves and can be downloaded and deciphered by anyone with the right equipment.

stupid 2nd amendment nuts. as is some “gun” will stop the Military. as if. the mindlessness of these “simpletons” always amaze me. as if Waco or Ruby Ridge wasn’t proof no 2nd Amendment loon can stop tanks, drone, the ATF, or our Army.

The “responsible gun owners” want guns for personal defense and possibly to overthrow the government, and they don’t want to keep bad guys from getting guns because it would be a shame to have all those guns around and not get to shoot someone.

You are wrong. If it got intolerable enough and the citizens started armed rebellion, even though the president is the “Commander in Chief”, parts of the military(and civil authorities) would side with the moral side and that could turn the tide.

I am NOT suggesting this, I am saying that is why we have the right to bear arms(that doesn’t mean that they are broken down and locked up in a safe, that means by your side, loaded). if you read what Thomas Jefferson wrote, you might understand. It sounded like he thought that armed rebellion might have to take place every generation.

“Well run militias” do NOT mean the National Guard. Militias are like posses, they are designed for a reason(even the KKK) and can be disbanded. Putting the federal Government in control is not a militia, it is an army.Sadly, the NSA looks like it will become a national police force. We have the FBI, the BATF, the Secret Service, and I am sure some secret ones. The states should keep the peace, the feds only regulate interstate problems or help when asked. that is as it should be.

Old Man River: The Second Amendment was destroyed in 1861, revived in 1865, destroyed in 1917, revived in 1919, destroyed in 1940 and stays that way. If you would bother to read not only the first half, but Madison’s Notes on the Constitutional Convention, it is obvious the “well regulated militias” was designed as a way to "insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence [yes, that is the spelling used], without those weapons of tyrants: conscription [still on the books], mercenaries, and large standing armies that we use today. It works quite well in Switzerland and a few other countries, but not in the one that invented it.

Huh, I thought this cartoon was about the 4th amendment – not the 2nd . . . why does it always come down to this?

“They are limitations on the government not on citizens.”You can count me as one of those that feels the government is overstepping the Fourth Amendment, but I think the Founders were well aware that freedom had to be balanced by order. Shay’s Rebellion was a direct cause of the decision to replace the Articles of Confederation with our Constitutional Republic. An army was raised to defeat the rebellion, but only with some difficulty. The Federalists wanted a professional, tax funded army. They knew relying on what individuals could bring wasn’t enough to preserve the nation.

For goodness sake……nothing has ever been achieved by argueing. We all have our own opinions, and US politics mean nothing to the rest of us who live globally. We in the UK just get on with life and regret, or not, the actions of those who we voted for last time.

I think Rista sums it up best. Social media, the PATRIOT Act, CISPA, the proven-beyond-a-shadow-of-a-doubt-ineffective security measures “to combat terrorism,” we gave away our rights to privacy in the name of false celebrity and false security. I don’t really want people to know what I’m doing up to the minute, the freedoms for police and Feds to spy on citizens with “just cause” has been repeatedly abused, and the whole “duct tape and plastic bags” measure against bioterrorism? Ha! “Duck and cover” all over again; reassure the sheeple and prevent panic.

“Live free or die” – Vermont state motto, not Mass. And they don’t live by it, in any case.
