Man: We're manipulated by advertising, Tony, and I bought into the eating-meat-is-macho image, too...until my heart attack. But did you ever notice that those thin, gorgeous women plying us in the ads for burgers never actually eat the burger they're caressing? Waiter: Hmm...oh. Right. Dude...you're killin' my dream...my big, juicy bacon and cheesy dream... Man: Sorry Ned: Go to the light weight, Tony.
The newly converted to any belief system seem always to be the most vocal. (Almost as if they were still trying to convince themselves, along with those they are lecturing.)
It’s also interesting that there has to be blame placed on others. No one who ‘believed wrongly’ made an actual choice. They were ‘manipulated into it’ by cunning advertisements.
So, today’s manipulative advertisers, yesterday’s ‘the Devil made me do it’. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Or so I’ve heard…
