Jeffrey: Ok, first of all, vampire slugs don't exist... Danae: Yeah, but we've gotta prove it to Lucy. Jeffrey: Well, if I tried doing that, it would only serve to validate vampire slugs might exist and just keep this irrational fear alive. Danae: Ah...ok, I see. Lucy: Uh...see what? Danae: That he's afraid to look under there, too. Jeffrey: NO! Well..yes, but for something real.
First of all, there is no comic strip or comic strip character that didn’t have a portion of the readership hate it, for whatever reason. That is precisely why there’s a variety of comics on a comics page. You simply can’t please everyone, and to even try is a fool’s errand. Otherwise, you’d only need one comic strip in a newspaper. You have taken a dislike to Danae for whatever reason, and I accept that. Such is the nature of this business and art in general.
But I should point out to you that even if just a quarter of my readership felt the same way you do about Danae, I would have dropped her long ago. But that is not the case…not even close. The most response I get from readers is when Danae has been absent for more than a couple of weeks. I do hear from readers who tell me they skip the strip whenever they see her reappear, but they, like you, are very rare. So there is a very good reason Danae continues to appear on a regular basis…the majority of my readers demand it. I hope this clears things up for you. It would also help if you’d inform me on just what you do like.
Be well.
