Seriously, how hard is it to keep posting RERUN comics? If the comic had just cut off in the middle of a story I’d worry that some emergency had come up and was preventing the artist from continuing to post or even from explaining what’s wrong. But stopping right here where it says “To Be Continued” suggests an intentional pause – only, they haven’t bothered to tell anyone they were pausing, or say when they’d be back, and again, THESE ARE RERUNS! You shouldn’t need to take a break to figure out where the story’s going or build up a buffer or anything like that. So why has the strip just stopped, with no explanation, for over a week?
Yeah, the comic ran on its own website for awhile, then went on hiatus and started posting here from the beginning. See the link below the comments, where it says “Visit Official notinventedhere Website!”? Click that and you can read the whole thing.
OK, I emailed the creator of the comic, Bill Barnes, a WEEK ago pointing out that the comic had stopped updating and asking that he at least acknowledge the problem, even if he couldn’t fix it. He responded, “I had no idea! I’ll look into it.” And then nothing has happened for a week. I give up. I like this comic, but if I want to read it by clicking through archives instead of seeing something that updates regularly, I can do that on the old site. I’m not coming back here.
by Bill ( link to this post | email me | my twitter )We have some news!
For a variety of personal and professional reasons, we need to take a break from Not Invented Here. We will finish up the current storyline (more or less by the end of the year) and then go on hiatus. We’ll be back as soon as we can — make sure you don’t miss out by signing up for our email delivery.
We have good news, too. The complete run of NIH is now being syndicated on GoComics four days a week, alongside such classics as Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes, Pearls Before Swine, and Get Fuzzy! We hope this will bring a whole new audience for the strip.
We especially want to thank our patrons for making this last year possible by paying us for our time.
Thank you for reading NIH, and we’ll do our best to return as quickly as possible.
The original gap between this comment that the one that followed was only four days… so given that it’s been a couple months, I don’t hold out much hope for GoComics getting this working again.
So just pick up the story line here: http://notinventedhe.re/on/2011-3-31
Methinks it’s dead. Passed on. No more. Ceased to be. Expired and gone to meet its maker. A stiff, bereft of life. It rests in peace. Its metabolic processes are now history. Off the twig, kicked the bucket, shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible.

This, is an ex-strip.
