I’m reminded of a chapter of Felix Salten’s Bambi (original 1929 book, pre-Disney), in which we are allowed to eavesdrop on the conversation of the last two leaves on a tree, in late autumn, as they contemplate the end of their lives. Lovely piece of writing.
