    I suppose it would depend on what they sing, and if you like learning stuff about orthodox Christianity. Even so, here’s hoping there’s an intermission — two hours is a long time to sit (or stand) for anything!

    So the old monk gave the young monk the task of transcribing texts. The young monk suggested getting the original texts. The old monk said no, but the young monk persisted, and pointed out that there might have been errors, since the texts had been transcribed so many times. The old monk finally agreed, and went to find the originals. Hours passed. The young monk found the abbot, who agreed they had better look for the old monk. They opened a cellar door, and heard much wailing and lamentations. “Celebrate, it says celebrate!”

    My wife’s Christmas present to me a couple years ago was a weekend Gregorian Chant retreat at an abbey somewhat near us, including all the Daily Offices. It was great.
