There is no W in Icelandic, so many Icelanders have trouble making the W sound when they’re speaking English, and often say V instead. We lived in Oklahoma for 13 years, and my mom managed to learn the W sound, at least in most cases. She could, for example, say “sweat” correctly, but she never managed to say “sweater”. She always said “svetter”.
