I remember our 3rd grade class doing this experiment and the one in the closet grew but the one on the window sill did not.
I don’t know why that memory sticks with me so well. It was 1979 and I can still hear the sound of our teacher’s voice saying with a chuckle “Huh! Well THAT wasn’t supposed to happen!”
I did an experiment once with flies. I taught them to fly on command. I’d say “fly, fly,” and the fly would fly. Then I cut the wings from one and said “fly, fly,” and it didn’t fly.
This proved that, when you cut the wings off of a fly, it becomes deaf.
