Ringo tells the story that the police shutting them down was very disappointing- because they were polite, they explained there was no permit for the show and people were gathering in the street to listen and the police were afraid someone would get hurt. it was all very reasonable-at the end of the 60’s they’d hoped the police would drag them off on film, ringo leaning in to get one more drum hit as he was hauled off. but maybe, just maybe, the police had learned something too.
everyone recalls their east coast debut in ’64, but what is forgotten, is they then went to the west coast, and stayed with Elvis in his Malibu home for 2 weeks…and they jammed in his state of the art basement studio

If you played on the roof of an apartment building, the denizens would be up all night.

Seems to me that they actually did joke about doing it somewhere they weren’t supposed to be, so the cops would run them off.

I wished they had gotten “Dig it” and “Maggie Mae” in better shape before the roof…those would have been fun…

The more you all discuss the film, the more I’m tempted to subscribe to Disney+
