For the record, “Atlantic Monthly” is a real magazine, and chances are, at some point it really did print the word “stuff.”
I think Americans are trained to have short attention spans by the frequency of the ad breaks on US TV. Here in the UK even the most commercial channels allow 15 mins between ad breaks, and usually it’s 20.
That’s the American spirit.
