Pat Oliphant for June 23, 2011
Transcript:
Aid: Ah, there you are - Sir, will we soon be getting out of Afghanistan? Obama: Yes, we won't. Aid: Then, would we be redirecting war funds to urgent domestic needs? Obama: No, we will. Aid: Would we be prepared to say that right out loud? Obama: Yes, we wouldn't. Aid: 'Axelrod', I keep telling myself, 'in these tough times you need the work, you need the work.' Obama: Anything else?
I grew up with this kind of imagery in the Deep South, Jack. The good ol’ boys in the KKK always joked about Jewish people (in this case, Axelrod) having big noses and African-Americans as shiftless and lazy ‘darkies’ skipping work to go fishing (Obama). Here we are again, back to the same old offensive stereotypes. All it took was having a Black President to rekindle it. So, I’m a ‘bigot’ for pointing it out? Too bad we as a country still hang on to this stuff. I like Oliphant, he’s the best, but if I were Jewish or Black, I’d be very offended by this. Just sayin’.
