Oh, Charlie Brown, you blockhead… keeping the other kids’ spirits really high.

And the delicious irony is that this strip is running just five days after Winter officially ended in the Northern Hemisphere!

Don’t worry about no snow on the first day of winter. There’s sure to be snow on the first day of spring.

That’s one tough snowflake. Usually the first flake of the year hits the ground and dies a quick death. It doesn’t hang around for all the kids to get their winter equipment on. But, it IS a comic…

In Atlanta, new residents who have moved here from the North claim that a single snowflake makes us long term locals skid off the highway.

I remember reading this in one of the first Peanuts paperback collections. Signet, I think it was. Not till decades later did I learn that “signet” means “bookmark” in French.

Look around. Leaves are brown. There’s a single snowflake on the ground.

I recall a few years ago sitting on my porch with my wife on Hallowe’en, watching the trick-or-treaters come and go in 60-degree weather. Yes, the very next day a snowstorm rolled in, but that was a supremely warm Autumn.

We had our Winter on Tuesday March 14, less than one week before Spring.

This must have happened last year.

One snowflake does not a winter make. Thanks to Aristotle and Wikipedia for the original: “One swallow does not a summer make, nor one fine day; similarly one day or brief time of happiness does not make a person entirely happy.”

Give it a few months…they’ll all be cooped up in the house, restless, bored and ready for spring.

A lady I knew that lived in Seattle once told me that, when they had a 3-inch snowfall, the city declared an emergency!

The first shot of the first episode of “King of the Hill” had lone, straggling snowflakes falling on the Texas town of Arlen, and down below, cars were sliding around helplessly. Pretty accurate.
