In Germany it was translated as “Schmusedecke” (cuddling/snuggling blanket) which completely failed to take the security aspect into account. I hate to think how many strips around the blanket could not be translated adequately because of that original wrong translation.
Didn’t Schulz once say that the strip changed with the advent of the security blanket, because parents were suddenly comparing it to their own kids? I seem to recall that from some book.

So that explains why Lucy later became so crabby

If I remember right, that’s no ordinary blanket… it’s outing flannel.

and when the parents fail to get Linus off the blanket, grandmother comes next (and at times the dog Snoopy)

A whole generation of parents hated Schulz when their kids started emulating Linus with his blanket. (These were kids old enough to read Peanuts.)

The Italian translation of “Linus blanket” (La coperta di Linus) became an idiom for those who are insecure

I’m surprised Lucy knows so much about the blanket. Did she use to have one herself maybe?

Lucy actually seems supportive of Linus having a blanket. This in stark contrast to later years…

And you’ll do the same to poor Linus, you future monster.

Or your older siblings. Just to be mean.
