Some effort went into drawing those “Plinks”. Especially the outlined ones; they look as good as computer generated text.

Must be bad – in Panel 3, he’s suffering from the same eye disorder Little Orphan Annie had… perhaps she was a carrier?

When I was a kid, kids my age still had marbles, and kids a few years older could play the actual game, but I don’t think “marbles culture” reached my younger siblings at all. When did it die out? Or is it still around outside my circle of acquaintances?

It seems poor old Charlie Brown has lost his marbles.

Like the Cell Block Tango scene from “Chicago”. That started with a dripping faucet.

The final panel was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Plink.”

Leroy Anderson composed a little two-and-a-half minute piece of music to accompany Charlie Brown’s agony of defeat: “Plink, Plank, Plunk!”

Like the general who has to watch his soldiers die. Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.

Looks like he never learned the valuable lesson about marbles: always make your last marble a “steely.”
