Sally sits at a desk with a pencil and paper. Linus says, "All right, let's see you write the number sentence for 'one is less than five.'"<BR><BR> Sally writes, "1 < 5"<BR><BR> Linus says, "That's right!" Sally says, "It is?!"<BR><BR> Sally shouts, "I've solved the new math!!"<BR><BR>
I grew up in the eighties, and the way that stuck in my mind when learning this notation was Pac-Man. Obviously Pac-Man’s mouth would always be facing where there was “more”.
