    Who indeed?

This year things are tight. There will be nothing under our tree. But that’s OK because the greatest Gift cost us nothing—and cost Him everything. He gave Himself freely.Let us learn to do the same.

    Have a good Sonday, y’all.

Happy Birthday Jesus. Thank you Charles Schulz for the blessings you shared with the world thru this strip. Although it has been almost 14 years since you left this world for your heavenly home; you still touch the hearts and souls of millions of people through your beatiful, yet simple little strip.

Several years back there was an article – I don’t recall if it was a newspaper, magazine or a TV show – that did “Top 10 Television Christmas Moments.” Linus’ recitation of Luke made the #1 spot. While it probably wouldn’t make their list today, it will always be MY #1.

Actually, no one edited or changed the original Sunday cartoon. Luke 2:14 – “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” I am just sure the network used a more inclusive note for the tv show. But the reality is that is what the Bible reads.

Yep, first new 1966 Sunday after a snubbing foir a 1961 one last week. And it features the reciting of Linus’ true meaning of Christmas from 1966 one year after the first airing of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

said: I thought the verse said, “Peace on earth, goodwill towards men,” you know: all-inclusive. The way it reads above peace is only wished to “men with whom he is pleased."

There are many translations of the Bible. Linus is quoting from the Revised Standard Version (RSV).We are fortunate that it became a tradition to have annual broadcasts of A Charlie Brown Christmas. Today, if someone created a new program that mentioned the real reason behind Christmas, it would not make it to network television. Another symptom of the sad state of contemporary society.

I don’t remember which came first, the special or this comic, but Schultz commonly used the KJV, which reads, “Goodwill towards men.” I do remember Schultz quoting from the American Standard Version which is is used in today’s comic.

I know you’re not arguing the accuracy of the translation but the choice of which translation is used. It’s possible that Chuck chose the other translation for this work. If that’s the case, then it’s his prerogative to make this change. If not, then I would agree that his work should remain unmodified, even though I believe that the ASV is more accurate than a 400-year, first time English translation.

Merry Christmas & thanks for your comment. I agree that we have a choice in how commercial the holiday is.

I love this (and the special that begat it). I was 6 when “A Charlie Brown Christmas” first aired, and some of my best memories of the season are of watching it with my family while I was in grade school. My dad and sister are gone so that leaves me and Mom, who turns 87 Friday. This is even more than a celebration of Christmas to me…it’s a connection with my childhood that’ll remain after everyone in my family is no longer with me.

Merry Christmas, everyone, and don’t let the haters ruin it for you.

I actually think this strip is subversive in the same way that the “Great Pumpkin” is subversive: they both point out that religious and imaginary characters are exactly alike.

Many people think that Charles Schulz had some rock-ribbed Christian beliefs, but it is not true. He had doubts all his life, and in the late 80s, he said, “I do not go to church anymore… I guess you might say I’ve come around to secular humanism, an obligation I believe all humans have to others and the world we live in.”

I think his doubts come through in his strips, though he didn’t make it blatant.

Luke 2:14 says, Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward all men just like in the video Linux0s posted. Why does the strip add with whom He is pleased? Whoever is doing the strip now is adding to the scripture. Nonbelievers will stop there and go no further.
