We never got that kind of desk until 1952 (third grade) – before that we had the kind that had bench seats, a lift top and an inkwell. They were bolted to long runners which were also bolted to the floor. Made it hard to goof off or pull stunts…Found the new ones were “Adjustable” -brought some wrenches and made a “low rider out of mine” – teacher didn’t like it….

That’s how I felt about school….. every time we moved. Starting a new school year at the same school was a lot easier than being the new kid.

I hated school, too, Sally. Loved learning, hated school. Homeschooling wasn’t a thing back then.
