Or it’s landed on some Island where a guy is stranded and needs a friend.

Most probably floating with the rest of the plastic in the middle of the Pacific.

You know that he said it to make her feel better, what are the chances of a beach ball making it that far?

Will the beach ball end up in Hawaii?

Keep it away from Florida as our dolphins and manatees have enough plastic to deal with.

Little did Charles Schulz know when he drew this cartoon what a disgusting human mess of plastic would be amassing in the world’s oceans. It’s even in the remotest of areas such as Midway Atoll. A recent segment on 60 Minutes actually showed many kids plastic beach toys washed up there among all the other junk. As it all breaks down, it’s now even becoming nano-particles found in our food…gee, thanks, EPA, for doing such a marvelous job over the decades of protecting our planet. This is a world-wide problem and the world’s people need to get a grip on it, asap.

Lifetime member of The Nature Conservancy.

    And, I haven’t used a plastic straw since 1972.

The beach ball was probably found by the same guy across the sea who regularly exchanges messages with BC.

A Sunday Peanuts strip with a similar idea featured CB excitedly alerting Sally to her beach ball floating across a lake. With her semi-characteristic aplomb (Sally does tend to ping-pong between serenity and hysteria), she says, “Stay calm, big brother, stay calm.” Then she shouts, “All right, you stupid beach ball! Get back here this instant, or you’ll regret it for the rest of your life!” The beach ball comes meekly rolling back. As Sally walks away with it, she comments (again, with great aplomb), “Sometime you just have to know how to talk to a beach ball.” One of my favorite Peanuts lines.

My parents bought me a huge beach ball when I was about 4…my Dad spent most of the day at the beach swimming across the lake retrieving it because it was too big for me to hold onto. After all that it got punctured on a fence the next day and my parents let it retire.

This comic reminds me of a story I found online Wednesday about a duck that helped return a boy’s flip flop. (Cool video partway down the page.)
