Violet is far and away the most unpleasant character in the Peanuts Universe. She’s unfeeling, superficial and snobbish, and her treatment of Charlie Brown in the 1960s far exceeds anything that Lucy ever did to anyone in terms of cruelty. Lucy, at least, has a heart – Violet seems to have lost hers in the late 1950s. To begin with, Violet was a sweet and lovely girl who made mud pies and wore her long hair in braids. There were even occasions where she expressed a romantic interest in Charlie Brown, and vice versa. By 1958, however, she grew to despise Charlie Brown for no apparent reason and was continually telling him what a contemptible failure he was (admittedly, there were also occasions on which Violet and Charlie Brown would make small talk in a comparatively amicable way). Violet ceased to be a major character in the mid-1960s, but she continued to make background appearances until 1996. In 1982, Violet wished Charlie Brown a Happy New Year and walked to the cinema with him (she was obviously having a very good day). In 1983, she complained to Lucy that all the boys in the neighbourhood are too dumb for her to want to go out with them. In 1989, she wore her hair in braids again for a single strip, and in 1992 she was shown taking a break from roller-skating. In 1996, she even participated in a discussion revolving around Rerun!
