Phoebe: How do we get to where you life? Is it far? Marigold: It is never far. Our world and yours are like radio stations on close frequencies that often overlap. Phoebe: What's a radio station? Marigold: I am old.
Im real glad no one tried to fight Phoebe’s creativity. Also I feel old when I talk about Ghostbusters, He-Man, Thundercats, VHS tapes, VHS cameras, film camera, cassette tapes, Lazier disks, floppy disks, the C64,2nd phone lines, dial up,rabbit ears,The Wizard,Thriller,Dan Quale,Quale Man, ALF,Batman,Star Trek TNG…etc any time some one says they where 7 when they 1st saw Pokemon, or Kim Possible or plaid Wind Waker or saw Phantom Menace, any one 13 or younger, most 20 year olds, some 16 year olds, make me feel old. What is life if you never plaid Super Mario 3? or watched Star Wars or plaid with the gen 1 Transformers? Do you remember the very 1st TMNT? or a time when MLP wasn’t a phenomenon? When Dexter not Johny Test was the kid scientist on Cartoon Network? When CBS, NBC and ABC where the only networks that had cartoons and they were on Saturday mornings and week days right after school? coming home to week long 5 part episodes? Who among you can still sing the Duck Tales theme? or the Danger Mouse song? Some times I feel sad when a 10 year old plays Super Mario RPG and says “these graphics suck” or a 8 year old plays SMB wii and aims the controller at the screen rather then holding it sideways. Or when you say Batman and people think Dark Knight and not TAS or when some kid calls Ghostbusters “that show from the 90s” other times I smile when a 4 year old sees my ghostbusters shirt and calls it his favorite show or when they reboot Thundercats or Turtles and its DARN good! Yes we’re all sad to see YJ end its run on CN but why do none of the fans remember JLU? Why has no one seen Static? Why don’t more people miss Freakazoid? Why is G4’s Portal over shadowed by the game of the SAME NAME? Yes marigold I too feel old, though you are clearly older even then I.
I know kids who don’t know what CD’s are. iPods are older than they are. Actually, iPods are legacy technology – if it’s not a part of their phone, it’s archaic and old and weird. Like Marigold!
“What’s a radio station?” Ouch. When I was young, I thought a Walkman radio that played cassettes was high-tech. Now you can bypass the station and play whatever you like. Pretty soon I’m gonna be as dusty as my LPs.
Phoebe is a nerd Marigold. Just tell her you come from an alternate universe and she would have understood perfectly well. That explains why Phoebe can only go there when riding Marigold. You did notice that Phoebe is riding side saddle as I predicted she would have to, based on the style of her finery.
I will never forget the day I made a recording of a voice lesson like I used to record all of the voice lessons I taught. I always geve the student the tape at the end of the lesson so he or she could use it for practice during the week. Well this last lesson I recorded, I gave the girl her tape and she just looked at it for a long time. I asked her what was wrong. She said that she felt she needed to ask me a question and she didn’t know how. After some promts, I found out she was wanting to ask about the tape. She had been coming to lessons with me for about a month at that time and wanted to know why I kept giving her that strange rectangular thing at the end of every lesson. I told her that the thing was a tape, like a cassett tape that I had recorded the lesson on. My intention was for her to use the tape during practice. She asked what a tape was. She had never seen her parents use tape before. I talked to her parents, and her parents did not know about tapes. I realzied then that I was indeed old. And weird. I did a quick survery of my students (I saw about 30 each week) and discovered that the majority knew what tapes were, but no longer had a machine to play it on. A small but growing number never knew what a tape was unless it was sticky stuff for paper. So I stopped recording lessons.
………………………………….. Dastardly and Muttley. Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. Scooby Doo. Jonny Quest (the original one).=Daktari.=What’s become of the television that I once knew? (sob) (choke)
So what? I can remember Howdy Doody, Miss Frances Ding Dong School, and the original Mickey Mouse Club. Yes I was born way before the Corvette came out. The Hudson make of car, and the Kaiser were still around.
Technology changes very fast for us. If I ever have kids (and I hope not), I don’t really expect them to know what VHS’s are and I expect DVD’s to be on their way out. Maybe Blu-rays depending on pace of technology.
I’m glad I’m not the only one here who remembers “Howdy Doody”, and 78s, and sitcoms and cop shows on radio, and home disk recorders and wire recorders, and literal record albums, and home darkroom equipment (because who wanted to drive an hour into the city to find a camera shop)?
In the meantime, I see my suspicions have been correct, and Marigold does live in a parallel world. That should keep the ol’ plot engine running for years to come!

Also Finally an explanation why Unicorns are never far. Also I can now confirm that Unicorns do not live in places I have never been. (like Wisconsin)
