I don’t think doing some impressive magic would require lowering the sheild. The record player trick should work in that time period.

On a different tack : could this be family history ? Could these other two unicorns be Marigold’s parents ( Note the similarities in their various physical features. They may be a bit mixed, but it seems like each one can fit Marigold ) ?
