I had the same problem when I switched to teaching humans after a long time obedience training dogs. Had to learn to say, “Well done!” or “Good job!” not “Good lad!” The basic principles are still valid though—lots of praise when they get it right, and don’t give in when it’s a question of discipline; not rough, but firm.
