Earl IS the mothers side. And I believe the male baldness pattern gets passed down in the X chromosome? Will someone with a scientific background please clear this up?
Genetics, BAH! In pix of a few generations of both sides of my family, my fathers father and I are the only ones that look like Rick Harrison ! (Pawn Stars)
Baldness comes from the mother? Oh yeah??? Every male on my mother’s side for many generations has full hair. Every male on my FATHER’S side for many generations has gone bald. What a total crock.
Well I certainly got my baldness from my mother’s father. None of the males on my father’s side is bald. But it does not always come thru that way. One of my brothers (both older than me) has the same pattern baldness and the other still has a full head of hair.
Of my 4 sons, only 1 went bald in his 20s, like their dad and his dad. My dad had thick hair at 84, while his dad went bald early. Now graying… that’s another matter.

Baldness only comes from the father of the mother. Unless that’s what his grandad is.

He is the father of his mother, but baldness would be inherited from the men on the maternal side, so take a look at Opal’s brother, if she has one.

not true, you get baldness from the mother not the father

It can skip paternal generations too IIRC, Dave.

Check it out on WebMD. According to this article, there may be some other genes involved, but the main genetic component is as I mentioned above.

Making Nelson’s jump up straight is going to help his future baldness.

What’s the problem? Doesn’t everybody know that God made a few perfect heads and hid the rest under hair?
burleigh2 about 11 years ago
No, it comes from the mother’s side (Opal, in this case). ;-)

Wikipedia: " It was previously believed that baldness was inherited from the maternal grandfather." [i.e. Earl]
