(Can’t edit anymore). I would always reply to those who showed such surprise at my socks: “I consider matching socks to be a manifestation of the bourgeios mentality.” Gave them something to think about besides my socks.
I have done the shoe thing and my X used to do the sock thing all the time, his logic was that when he is standing up no one can tell because his pants covered them. Back in the 70’s he had a bunch of those stupid looking white socks with the colored band at the top, he never ever matched those, after all the bottom of the sock was white.
Our son, a most succesful salesman, has worn “mis-matched” socks every day. His clients enjoy his unique socks & that was usually the first thing they wanted to see before placing their orders. Opal…in the huge scheme of life, matching socks is small. RELAX and enjoy the quirks that make Earl Earl
Proving once again EARL DA MAN and Opal not.Still love her but different brain, not an Earl brain.Which is also good, one Earl per family is usually enough.

“Not a match, the board goes back”. Bill Cullen never did recover from the one time he met Earl.

My granddaughters lose socks as soon as they’re taken from the package. They think “crazy sock” day is normal.
