Oh, don’t do that Earl. When I was that age, I told my mother I couldn’t bear the thought of her being in the ground after she died. She said, “Do you want them to stuff me and hang me on the wall?” A hundred years later, I still have that visual in my mind!

Who were you trying to tease more with that statement, Earl? Nelson or Opal?

There’s no need to stuff Earl; he’s already full of something.

Many times I’ve considered stuffing Mr. Wonderful for all posterity. Maybe a cardboard photo would work instead.

I remember when Roy Rogers’ horse Trigger died and they had him stuffed. Dale Evans joked she was going to do the same with Roy and put him on top of the horse.

Opal is a problem solver.

Earl was the problem.

don’t do that. that’s worse than getting your dog stuffed, and alan alda has already explained in detail in his book about why this is bad

I thought it was just my parents who joked about being stuffed and mounted on the sofa! Ha!

Not trying to be morbid or anything but I already have plans to be buried when I die.

In much of the country, funeral homes were not involved. The women of the family or community stretched the body out on the table, stripped it, cleaned it, put clothes back on, waited a day or two just to make sure and sent the men out to bury it..(after which they often ate off the same table)
