Old broken consoles make great tv stands. It’s called repurposing. My ex used to switch to his show, then fall asleep with the remote stuck in his armpit.

My guess Opal was knitting while watching TV in unison was so she wouldn’t fall asleep watching TV if she didn’t knit in unison.
