That’s because we remember a time, long ago, when there were no plastic bags! So we saved bread wrappers and rinsied them out and hung them up to dry and reused them.l And then came the miracle of Glad bags and some clever men somewhere got very rich. You need to grow up and invent something people didn’t know they needed, Nelson!
Today I save plastic bags to scoop my kitty’s used litter into to dispose of it. Any bags I can’t use for that (ie if they have holes in them) I definitely take back to the store for recycling.
In my city* they banned plastic grocery bags. Paper costs a nickel each or you can bring cloth bags again and again. It’s feel good law but they still have tons of trashbags, produce bags, sandwichbags…
You put the bags in a bag under the sink, then turn off the light when you leave.Next day. . .more bags.
Same for STUFF, that which fills closets, attics, corners, garages, cabinets, and shelves. It just seems to grow invisibly but ever so subtly. Once it gets to a certain tipping point, instead of junking it, we decide to find a new house so we will have more room for it.
I have some bags of bags, but I also fetch some bags out to use again when I go to the store, or to put my stuff in for the gym. And I do recycle the ones which have developed holes or are too small to reuse!
We line wastebaskets with the plastic bags from the grocery store. Also use them for taking outgrown clothes to the thrift store, give some bags to daughter for above mentioned cat box clean-up. The smaller plastic bags for doggy pick-up at the park. Our city recycles almost everything so torn or un-needed plastic bags go in that container. Waste not-want not!

I used to save my paper bags until I realized roaches really love the glue holding them together.Eventually a bacterium will evolve which loves plastic bags and suchlike and the world will run out of old bags.(Not you, ladies, I didn’t mean you. We will never run out of you.)

Time to go to a grocery store and turn in all those plastic bags of recycling… behind Opal’s back.

My mom used to send me out in the snow with bread wrappers over my shoes because I didn’t have boots. At least they kept my shoes dry.

There is an eerie side to this.
