Most pluggers never bought an 8-track player… By the time they got around to it, the fad was over. The reason they bought cassette players is that 20 years after original release, the technology hadn’t changed.
8-track was very little like ree-to-reel (a.k.a. 4-track) – in reel-to-reel, all four tracks are usually used for synchronized sound, resulting in very high stereo or quadrophonic sound quality; whereas in commercial 8-track tapes, each track was used for a seperate stereo sound track, resulting in medeocre sound quality.
If you want to play your old 8trks, you might need to go to an electronics store that sells, mixers, and cables to your “In” port on the back of your pc, I’ve been doing that for years, I don’t need to download music with the risk of viruses, I just play them into my mixer, and record them on cassettes.
Gots me an 8 track player that I can take anywhere. Us 60s pluggers got all the good stuff. And as for putting your 8trax on your computer Mac. Simply run a patch-cord from the earphone jack to the input port on the back of your computer. then use a program like Audacity to record your music. I do it with my 8s, cassettes, and 78s, 33-1/3rds and 45s.
I consider myself a Plugger, but I have no idea what most of you are talking about. I know, basically, what an 8-track player looks like, but that’s about it. Can you plug it in to my iPod?

I wonder if anyone’s ever made an 8-track you can hook up to your computer to make digital files?
I got one for my old record collection before I remembered I don’t know where my record collection is.
