I guess it was in the ’70s that Smith-Corona made a last-ditch effort to push typewriters with a radio advertising campaign that had people singing what they were typing (a recipe, a term paper, etc.) followed by a chorus singing “Smith-Corona makes your words sing”.

I’m sorry now I tossed my old portable. It used to be an object had to be 100 years old to be called an antique.

(Speaking of obsolesence, I just read that the Japanese next year will stop manufacturing floppy disk drives. End of an era.)

(Ooh, I almost got trapped into a multiple post! For some reason I got a security message about saving a file. DO NOT RE-POST! Now I must go back and see if I have comments to delete on other strips.)

The last typewriter I bought had a parallel port that let me use it as a daisy-wheel printer.

He just needs to have his grandson check eBay. It’s full of “vintage” everything (brand new, in package) that his fellow pluggers left behind when they departed.

Royal factory burned down a mile from where I sit. Memories of lugging one around campus bring a sweet tear to my eyes. It handled the worlds greatest term papers and most loving poetry during my undergrad years. Thank God there was not memory.

It’s still a hell of a lot easier to address an envelope in a typewriter than to use a printer.
