Me always disappointed: our HOA has dozens of rules about what cannot be displayed on private property but not a single rule to remind to fly the US Flag at half staff on the community flag pole from sunrise to noon and to then return to full staff.

Had a friend who lived in a HOA. Put the stars & stripes up for Memorial Day; was told he had to take it down. Told the person where to go as he was honoring the fallen. Paid the fine. Put the flag up again on the Fourth; told the same thing. Told the person where to go as he was celebrating the independence of Our country. Paid the fine. Went to court; HOA told they couldn’t do that, paid the fine. God bless our country and those who died defending it and democracy.

Our reenactment unit (18th c) is always in the local Memorial Day parade. One year some of our members – who were actual Veterans – could not walk the parade route so I drove them in my suv to keep them in the parade. It does feel silly to be dressed in 18th clothing – including stays and to drive a car. The fellows will periodically fire their muskets along the parade route.
