About 4 years ago my boss took a group of us, including me and my daughters (my husband had to work), to a restaurant. Boss ordered calamari for an appetizer. My older daughter (who was about 9 ) asked what it was. He said, “Calamari”. She responded, “Yes, but what IS it?” Before either he or I could answer, someone else at our table responded, “Seafood”. Well, my girls love seafood, so she asked if she could try it, and Boss gave her some. My younger girl (about 7) asked, “Me, too?” and Boss complied. They loved it.

The next day we were out shopping with my husband. I asked the girls, “Did you tell Daddy what you tried last night?” They both said, simultaneously, “We had calamari!” My husband, aka Mr. Blunt, responded, “Oh…you had squid?” From the back seat came a loud, “EEEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!” I reminded them how they had loved it, and they were like, ‘Oh…yeah!" They’ve had it several times since.

They should try the scungilli. I gave some conch fritters to a friend of my wife’s. After eating a couple and liking them, she pressed further as to what “conch” really was. “Sea slug” is not the best answer.

Being farmers, no part of the beef went to waste. My mother served a roast dinner for the crew and one of the younger hands replied after several slices of the roast that it was the best he had ever eaten. My big mouth said " That’s a heart roast". My bad. That was all for him. The rest stayed on his plate.

I told my girls that calamari was shrimp rings. They liked it.

I was in a Japanese restaurant once with my sister and her two granddaughters. I ordered the Squid Kara Age (marinated in ginger & Fried) The girls asked what it was when it was served. I told them. One went "Yuck. The other asked to taste it. Then, I got distracted for a minute or so. When I looked back down at my plate, it was Empty. The kid had Cleaned it off.
