Interesting. Lotsa commentators here supporting physical violence as a means of discipline. Would you accept your boss or a co-worker slapping you as a disciplinary measure? No? Then why would it be alright for a parent?
You have to start from the beginning and letting kids know what is good or bad behavior. Doesn’t mean you let bad stuff slide, but simply hitting someone doesn’t correct the problem. What that does is make someone afraid of you.
And I have three kids, always honor roll, part-time jobs and polite thru high school who we got thru college with no loans and are now working good jobs with wonderful spouses who come visit us on their own. (And yes, I count my blessings every day.)
