One of my least favorite parental phrases: “Why can’t you be more like [sibling]?” My mother, knowing how much I looked up to my older sister, would do that. I NEVER do that with my girls. (I’ve also promised them that I’d never use another hated parental phrase: when introduced to a boy, “Oh, I’ve heard SO MUCH about you!”)
