Moten ā€“ solid iceā€¦ and you think humanity will survive those turns? It is what the earth does, and wipes out masses of spices in turn. ā€¦makes me think of Bill Cosbyā€™s classic roller coaster routine. ā€œWeā€™re gonna run outā€™a tracks!ā€

This is all very well but accomplishes nothing. Itā€™s like one side sings the ā€œLlama Songā€ while the other sings ā€œModern Major-Generalā€. Both are momentarily charming and amusing but eventuallyā€¦

The Defense Department is very concerned about Global Warming. They have a group thatā€™s been analyzing it and itā€™s geo-political ramifications for a number of years now. Some climatologists that in the past have opposed the notion of global warming occurring now have, based on their own research, embraced the idea, and the idea that this one is greatly influenced by manā€™s actions. Itā€™s really two separate questions ā€“ first, is it occurring, and the overwhelming evidence is yes, and that it will have consequences. The second, is mankind causing or at least contributing significantly to this. Of all the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the ones that are only generated naturally have not been increasing, but the ones that mankind makes by itā€™s own actions is growing by leaps and bounds. The arguments should be about the best solutions, and opportunities.

Like Bill Cosbyā€™s roller coaster routine: ā€œPrepare to die! Prepare to die!ā€¦ā€

    1. Is the climate changing? Yes2. Are humans partially responsible? Probably3. Are carbon credits and taxes the way to solve the problem? No. The only purpose that carbon credits serve is to make Al Gore richer. Taxes always wind up in the general fund. Private industry should be looking into fusion and safer fission power.

Dick Cheney on Terrorism: ā€œEven if thereā€™s just a 1 percent chance of the unimaginable coming due, act as if it is a certainty.ā€

Using that same logic, even if thereā€™s only a 1% chance that global warming is real, because the consequences would be so disastrous, shouldnā€™t we act as if itā€™s a certainty?

People are giving the conspiracies and the rich too much credit. Plans like this take clear communication. When ten friends canā€™t pass a simple story between each other without it changing how can you expect a large group of people around the world to pull this off? It goes against human nature.

Yes, the climate does change naturallyā€¦.over eons. The climate change they are talking about is accelerated due to mankind. This isnā€™t hard to figure out. The gas coming out of your car has been used by people to commit suicide. How can you possibly thing that millions of cars pumping out the same gas all over the world for several decades isnā€™t going to be a problem?

Yes, the Earth warms and cools ā€“ so why are the imbecilic Tea Party crowd denying it happens or ever happens?

Maybe theyā€™re stuck on the ā€œEarth is only 6,000 years oldā€ fantasy and thus canā€™t understand this cycle.

Now Experts arenā€™t good enough. Havenā€™t you heard ā€“ you can no longer trust peer-reviewed studies (as my ā€˜the earth never changesā€™ friends/relatives have taken to saying)

ā€œfigure out a way to mitigate the more frequent extreme weather events.ā€ Yeah, but thereā€™s no money in that. Gore made millions from hysteria, thatā€™s where the bucks are.

People fear change more than they fear death. Weird. To say that itā€™s possible to change the climate with your actions means you have to acknowledge that change happens. It also requires (gasp) responsibility. To say it happens mean you might have to do something different, in other words, change. That scares people so badly theyā€™d rather deny the heck out of it. Just pretend its too complicated to understand, ignore any and all proofs that donā€™t fit your personal preference and hide from any other arguments by applying ad hoc arguments generously and with out bothering to even see if they fit. Heaven forbid you actually examine a problem honestly. That might requireā€¦ Change.
