When Biden invoked the likes of Strom Thurmond couple of years ago he was not excusing the guy’s beliefs, but pointing out that even HE was easier to deal with than the current ideology-bound Magats of today.
The time during which the Democratic and Republican parties were still re-aligning (before we used the “red” and “blue” labels) with a few liberal Rs and conservative Ds left over was a time when the parties could still make pragmatic deals.
Tip O’Neil used to tip a glass of whiskey with President Reagan after hours while they discussed legislation the nation needed. 2 completely different ideologies working together. The way it used to be when the nation worked together to resolve issues.
Remember when the Marxist republicans taxed the rich at 90% and built socialist freeways for the masses in the 1950s? Today’s republicans give all the money to rich people who don’t need it and they want to end democracy and be dictators.
Only way the House would work cooperatively is if the Dems cave on everything, no matter how unfair and stupid the laws made would be. Otherwise, the GOP doesn’t budge an inch.
..and Stannis continually ignores the fact that it is the GOPper-MAGAites who are obstructing and failing. The Dems have (almost literally) bent over backwards to accommodate and have only succeeded in getting the goal-posts moved further from civility. He has the (supposedly) liberal coyote proclaiming both sides are at fault. They are not.
It’s happened before. We even get snippets of it now and again. But if we really want it to happen again, this “us vs them” mentality needs to die out. I don’t see it happening anytime soon, though. It’d be a miracle if even our grandkids live long enough to see it happen again…

MAGAts will punish any Republican legislator who works together for the common good.

Looks like Mike Johnson days are numbered.

They would still work for the common good but they can’t agree on what it is.

How cool would it be for Stantis to point out the obstructionism of Republicans and the fact that the party has turned into a cult?
(Of course he would have to abandon his current claim that ‘all sides do it equally’.)
