The NYT recently published an editorial wherein the author recommended that Democrats refrain from criticizing Republicans in general and Trump supporters in particular. It did no good to call them morons, fascists, stupid idiots, haters, etc., etc. Those aspersions merely made them more intransigent and Trump’s rhetoric DID point to some valid issues. After all, the similar criticisms that the Democrats receive won’t cause them to lessen their support for Harris.
All right, the writer’s position does have legs. However, after four years of Trump — now widely regarded (by Democrats and traditional Republicans) as one the worst and most destructive presidents in US history — how is it possible to respect the folks who are die hard Trump supporters now?
