As your scout, I’ll go out and check about. One question: Why is my mini-skirted outfit red?

runar, the phrase “dark side of the Moon” refers to an archaic use of the word “dark” which is little-known in the U.S., to wit: Secret or unknown (rather than “without light”). Since Earth has a tidal lock on Luna’s rotation, yes there is a dark side of the moon, even when it’s well-lit.

tedcoop, runar was quoting a spoken word line from Pink Floyd’s classic rock album “Dark Side of the Moon,” the title of which was a pun on the term “lunatic.”

Because of the tidal lock you mentioned, there is a static near side and a far side of the moon, but the light and dark sides are dynamic, in that they change from one to the other at any given location on the moon.

Therefore, the quote could be taken in a scientifically correct way to say that there is no always dark side of the moon, really. As a matter of fact it’s all dark half the time.

Thank you for sparing me the need to explain all to tedcoop. All I do have to say to his comment then is that I am well aware of the archaic use of “dark”.
