How do those feel? Odd. Anything on his feet are going to feel odd- he's gone barefoot pretty much the entire summer. In that case, I recommend schooling in Hawaii. Can I, mom?!! We'll take these.
Why is it parents do not teach their kids how to break in new shoes? They become more comfortable and cause less blisters. On a plus side the mother should be glad she has a son; if it was a daughter who went barefoot during the summer the girl would be have way to being a red-neck’s wife.
I rarely went bare foot. I never liked it – especially not outdoors. You never know what you’re going to step on – or in. Now I may at times go barefoot in the house, but never outdoors.
At the top end of 50, Bare foot out doors in the yard is the BEST, if you step in something it washes off with the water hose. If you find and ant pile it feels different so you can get out quicker or if they start crawling up you foot you find out before there are a hundred of them. However, I agree the Chineze Tallow shells, pecan hulls and spring time burs are a real problem and can result in shoes. :)
Our son got a new pair one year and they fell apart in a couple of months. Went back to the store for a replacemt pair and discovered his foot had grown to a bigger size already.
neverenoughgold: They had to. With all that ionizing radiation spraying all over the reproductive system, they had to have some way to tell the mutations of the near future from those caused by atmospheric bomb testing.
First panel reminded me of one of my earlier memories — about age 4-5 I wanted some cowboy boots for Christmas. I can remember being taken to a the shoe store, having my eyes covered (not very effectively) while different boots were “tried on” my feet. I made sure they style I wanted was the one that “felt best”.
I miss those days. In the summer, I only wore shoes to church on Sunday. Still prefer barefoot around the house (slipper sox in the winter to keep the tootsies warm).

Does anyone else think that shoe salesman looks quite a bit like Dagwood?

If his foot feels odd, time to get out the fluoroscope!

I rarely wear shoes since I retired, indoors or outside. Of course, when it starts to snow here in Minnesota…
