Red: Mommm, aren't you going to kiss Rover's owie?!
Carol: No, it might introduce germs.
Red: But you always kissed mine!
Carol: He's a dog.
Red: Ok, but don't think of Rover as a different species- think of him, rather, as a fellow earthling!

A very long time ago I asked a dentist why people don’t die of horrible infections after tooth extractions and he answered that no one knows. Since then I’ve learned that saliva is mildly antibacterial. This apparently accounts for the reflex of putting your owie in your mouth and for mommies kissing booboos.

Better toughen up people. We’re going to have to start killing people pretty soon.
