Transcript:
Narrator: Rip and Co. are on the run from some usually grumpy goons! Rip Haywire: The bridge is out, and yet no construction workers in sight! Typical! Cobra Carson: They shot out our tire! Rip... I can't control... Rip Haywire: Cobra, look a pencil is floating in midair. Cobra Carson: Don't try to change the subject. This is all your fault, Haywire! Rip Haywire: Typical lousy driver... always the other guy's fault! Sheesh!
I thought maybe this was Dan’s take on the famous story about Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy – Gould drew himself into a corner, and actually proposed having an art gum eraser appear in a panel and change the scene, but his editors at the Tribune/Daily news wisely refused to let him do it, so he had to come up with a better escape plan. When I saw that pencil, with full eraser, it was the first thing I thought of.
